  Convention Activities

Golf Tournament
12:00 – 6:00 p.m. $180/person

TPC Louisiana Golf Course
Named by Golf Digest the “No. 4 Best Upscale Public Golf Course” when it debuted in 2004, TPC Louisiana’s championship layout was crafted by world renowned golf course architect Pete Dye, with PGA TOUR players Steve Elkington and New Orleans native Kelly Gibson serving as player consultants. Situated on 250 acres across the Mississippi River from New Orleans, the course features gently rolling hills; numerous wetlands areas; stately stands of cypress and oak trees; and four sets of tees on each hole, providing golfers of all skill levels with a picturesque, enjoyable challenge.

Format will be a four-player scramble with the winners announced during the Gold Leaf Awards Banquet on Saturday evening. The afternoon golf outing includes practice facilities/range balls, round trip transportation from the hotel to the golf course, a box lunch, tournament staff and services, and all taxes and gratuities.

Plantation & Swamp Tour
12:00 – 5:00 p.m. $135/person*

Destrehan Plantation
Leave the city behind and head for the delta region, where guests will spend 2 1/2 hours visiting the oldest documented plantation home in the lower Mississippi River Valley - Destrehan Plantation. Originally a 1782 French Colonial gem, the plantation was remodeled in the 1840s to a classic Greek Revival. The stateliness and stature of the exterior columns and balconies are softened by the surrounding gardens and grounds. With its colorful history including a training ground after the Civil War, Destrehan is featured in New Orleans-born writer Anne Rice’s “Interview with a Vampire” movie. Enjoy a tour and delicious lunch buffet on the plantation grounds!

Louisiana Flatboat Swamp Tour
After visiting Destrehan, it’s down to the bayou! Not far from the bright lights and excitement of New Orleans, there lies a silent world of mystery... a world of unmatched primitive beauty. Experience the beauty and serenity on an hour-long flatboat ride into the interior of one of the wildest swamps and natural areas in North America. Flourishing with Cypress trees draped in Spanish moss, wild flowers, and multitudes of indigenous aquatic plants, the swamp opens a path to the heart of Louisiana. Guests will enjoy a history of the massive swampland and maybe even encounter alligators, egrets, raccoons, water snakes, and many varieties of birds as well as exotic plant life. Guests will even get a peek at an authentic Cajun “trapper’s shack” nestled in this beautiful swampland.

* Guests must pre-register for this tour by April 2, 2010, to participate in this event.

  The Spirit of New Orleans

New Orleans is a captivating city with an undeniable allure. It is rich in history and culture, renowned for its culinary and musical achievements, revered for its distinctive architecture, and celebrated for its revelry.

History and Adventure by Day
Relive the history of New Orleans’ rich European heritage by exploring the heart and soul of the city in the famous French Quarter. Block after block of cast iron balconies, music clubs, antique galleries, and eclectic boutiques make this the city’s most visited area. Just a few miles away, venture into what was once known as the “American sector,” the Garden District, and stroll through the streets lined with gracious mansions and elegant gardens. Visit the Lafayette Cemetery, the haunting grounds of Anne Rice’s novel "The Vampire Lestat." Enjoy diverse wildlife in the moss-draped swamps of Louisiana. Take a leisurely cruise through alligator-filled swamps or jet away on an airboat adventure through the marshlands. Journey to Plantation Country and relax as you sip on mint juleps while strolling under alleys of oaks. Tour magnificent antebellum homes, ripe with family history and stories of days gone by. You may even catch a glimpse of a lonely ghost walking along the Mississippi.

Flavors and Sounds by Night
Savor gourmet fare as New Orleans’ dining scene will satisfy and dazzle your taste buds. Sample the city’s eclectic menu with legendary dishes from every ethnicity, served in popular neighborhood diners, tiny corner eateries, and classic restaurants. Enjoy soulful sounds from Grammy-winning musicians throughout the famed French Quarter, where the heart of New Orleans comes alive. Jazz is said to have been born here, but the city is home to a variety of styles including Gospel, Zydeco, Cajun, R&B, Country, the Blues, Reggae, and good ol’ Rock n’ Roll. Whether dining, gambling, or dancing until dawn, New Orleans is truly a city that never sleeps.

French Quarter Fest
April 9 - 11
New Orleans never needs an excuse to celebrate, with a festival taking place around every corner, and the annual French Quarter Fest is no exception. Alive with great music and bountiful food, the popular festival is the largest free festival of its kind in the south. Visitors can enjoy more than 250 hours of entertainment featuring more than 150 musical performances on seventeen stages throughout the French Quarter over this three-day weekend.
