Jeff Peterson, along with a panel of experts, will discuss new foil technologies and finishing processes that have become an integral part of the industry in recent years. Pathways to Finishing Green

In today’s eco-conscious business climate, environmental sustainability and responsibility can no longer be ignored for the print finishing operation that plans to secure its future. This powerful afternoon track of sessions will explore the necessary pathways to ‘finishing green’ – addressing hot topics that must be addressed by our industry as we move into the future.

The Impact of Sustainable Papers

Joy Evans, Western Regional Manager, Mohawk Fine Papers

Kari Fry, District Sales Manager - West, Mohawk Fine Papers

Paper is the main way corporations communicate. Green corporations use sustainable papers to enhance their message about being environmentally responsible. This presentation will highlight the different standards for sustainability and stewardship in paper manufacturing - how they are met and exceeded at Mohawk. It will examine trends in recycled stocks such as composition and pricing and will outline and share samples of environmentally friendly papers that are performing well in specialty applications such as foils and coatings. Finally, the presentation will explore the long-term benefits to finishers and printers of being ‘green’ – how enhancing your knowledge of sustainable papers can benefit your business by bringing new value to your customers.

The Challenges of Going Green

Jeff Morrow, Director of Sales, Label Impressions, Inc.

Where has green been, where is it today and where is it going? What do customers want in today’s eco-friendly climate and what products are available? This presentation will explore the challenges that operations in the graphic arts industry face in becoming green. From understanding green terms, such as ‘greenwashing’, carbon neutral and carbon footprint to discussing the major certifications that are available – how to certify and which are worth the effort, this presentation will cover what you need to know about the green process.

Foil and the Environment

Theo von Fraunberg, Senior Executive Sales & Marketing Coordination, North America, Kurz Transfer Products

When it comes to foil and the environment, what are the responsible choices in the foil manufacturing process? From choices in raw materials, recovery systems, and CO2 emissions during the production process to alternate sources of energy generated by foil waste (thermic utilization), this presentation will explore manufacturing in today’s eco-friendly environment. Learn the true stance on the recyclability of foiled paper and board and their affects on landfills – valuable information attendees will want to pass on to their customers.

Green Initiatives for the Foil Industry

Jeff Peterson, FSEA Executive Director

Jeff will discuss the current projects in which the FSEA is involved related to sustainability and other environmental initiatives. This will include an update on the activities directed at monitoring the impacts on association members now and in the future. Jeff will outline a plan for our industry to keep foil stamping a viable option for those involved with sustainable packaging design and implementation.
